Hypocrisy-R-Us

I just hate this shit.

Now look, I'm a church person. Phil and Marcy are church people. Misty is a church person. 5 of the 11 people in my Burning Man camp were church people (and 2 others I knew out on the playa). But we're damn sure not about to turn around and condemn people like these creeps.

Wanna condemn someone? Let's talk about the way the Bible has something like 400 verses about how to treat the poor, and, say, 40 about sex. Let's talk about not using religious groups' money to support gambling. Let's talk about love and compassion. But sex? (not to mention "butt sex"!) We've got better things to worry about.

i wouldn't know what to do if that happened to me.
'Act of lewdness', that's too funny where I'm from, but I can understand how it can, and does happen in places where ancient laws haven't been updated.

It's odd how they don't explain, in full, what exactly makes up an act of lewdness.

I've always suspected that the most commercially 'devout' people (those Evangelists on TV, for example) are the most subverse people on this planet because they continually maintain this persona of devoutness, thus have to wrestle with their inner drives more frequently (compared to a sex worker, for example), and therefore their urge to unleash is tenfold, compared to the average non 'fake' religously devout person.

"Commercially 'devout'": What a great turn of phrase! Some people say that selfishness is the only sin. Seems like hypocrisy is an extension of that--maintaining one's 'persona' instead of one's authentic humanity, warts and all.

Might explain a certain lack of candor in our elected officials, too (especially considering the pseudo-spiritual company they keep).
